 - Enable our own strnlen() implementation not only on DJGPP but also if
   HAVE_STRNLEN is not defined. This is needed to get older BSDs
   (e.g. NetBSD 6.0, FreeBSD < 8.0) to work.
 - Tiny other stuff.
